And still the teeth of animals are perfect! Why is the case of an animal different? What will happen if we didn't brush our teeth?? Therefore, the answer to these questions is that we all have noticed a soft sticky layer accumulating on our teeth every day. This layer is called PLAQUE. It is mainly formed of food fragments and bacteria. Brushing teeth help to remove plaque and gives us clean teeth, strong gums and a fresh breath. For strong teeth and gums it is compulsory to have good oral hygiene and for that brushing should be perfect.
Most dentalproblems are because of incorrect brushing techniques. One may be brushing three in times a day, but if brushing technique is not correct, there will be food accumulation in between the teeth resulting in poor oral hygiene. That is why knowledge of how to properly brush your teeth is very important.
Tooth Brushing Techniques
Bass Technique for Adults:In Bass method brush is placed against teeth and gums at 45 degree on the outer surface. In this brushing technique bristles are forced in the area linking the two teeth and the connection of gums with the teeth. Then teeth are brushed with small backward and forwards movements with vibratory action. The tongue is brushed with short anterior and posterior strokes. This brushing technique is used for daily use.
Fone's Technique for Kids: In this method brush is firmly placed against teeth and gums at 90 degree on the outer surface. Brush is moved in rotary action while teeth are closed. This brushing technique is very simple for the kids to follow.
Why Brush Your Teeth
If we use an incorrect brushing technique it can lead to problem like gums can be receded because of which teeth look extended and root is uncovered, gums get swollen and start bleeding, tooth yellowing, bad breathe, periodontal problems, wearing of the teeth takes place, teeth become sensitive, bone loss leading to mobility and ultimately tooth loss. Therefore, we need to brush our teeth daily and with a proper technique.
The foods that we consume have sucrose. When plaque combines with these sugars and starches, an acid is produced that infect tooth, which causes tooth decay. Plaque can also destroy the gums and lead to gum diseases. Irritated gums can become red, swollen and bleed, easily causing gingivitis. Gingivitis is the problem when the gum disease begins. Gingivitis can be treated if it is diagnosed in the early stages. If plaque is not detached, the gums can eventually start to pull away from the teeth. When this happens, bacteria can form and the bone that supports the teeth can be cracked. Once the bone is cracked, the teeth will loosen or have to be removed. Brushing your teeth correctly removes plaque from the surfaces of the teeth and flossing removes plaque from in between the teeth.
American Dental Association Says

The ADA also recommends that you should eat a proper balanced diet for good oral hygiene and also visit your hygienist regularly for cleaning your teeth and dental checkups.
We also need to brush our teeth to get rid of problems such as diabetes, cardiac hit and strokes. More and more studies are suggesting that oral disease can lead to diseases of the heart. Apparently the swelling that builds up in the mouth due to breaking of your tooth can spread somewhat to different parts of the body, as well as the heart, which means a higher possibility of cardiac disease. Cannot brushing your teeth bring about diabetes? Yes it certainly can cause diabetes. But according to doctor of Dentistry, it's possible that poor oral health can lead to several diseases with diabetes being one of an option.
